This story really hits a nerve, especially with all those bizarre (and truly, truly sad/horrifying) stories about people keeping other people chained and locked up for years in the news this past year. Did anything else ever happen or was it only when you were very young?

I agree with your sense of not wanting to engage what is unknown, especially since "gut feelings" are pretty spot-on when it comes to "otherworldly" things. i.e., if it feels sinister, it very well may be. There's a different sense to things that are NOT malevolent but…
