Best way to get past it now is Holding space, not pressing it. leaving or entering cover is activated by the up-click of the spacebar, confirming the loading message is activated by the downclick.

The crack is indeed a fully working crack and still works. I’m playing through it now, and it actually DOES seem to play better than my legit copy which is worrying.
