I’m on the same boat. I remember when all of the VQ35 stuff started hitting the streets, I always stopped and listened to anything powered by one as it drove away. The sound always gave me this spacey vibe that I enjoyed. I have heard some with obnoxious exhausts that sound horrendous, but that goes for anything. 

I’ve driven 996's, 997's, 986's & 987's. I’ve sat in air cooled cars, but never got to pilot one. I don’t mind the 996/986 interior once a few modifications are done. It’s a little 90's Ford-esque, but has a charm I can appreciate.

I had a ‘93 5.2 that I bought for $500 and drove for two years while living in Northeastern PA. I loved the thing and it was ridiculous what it could claw through with factory AWD and open differentials. 

I have a friend with a B5 S4 and 1st gen A8. I may have to oblige myself.

This is what’s confusing to me. I can understand TT/V160 Supras commanding a premium. The entire driveline is nearly ridiculously overbuilt front to back. The TT/A4 cars to a lesser extent (trans and diff) and then there’s the NA cars. Those things being expensive is like V6 Mustangs commanding a premium because 03-04…
