My comment is reality. There are no fully black fleshed out woman characters on Atlanta. The only one making ignorant comments here is you. She is mixed race, German and black and identifies with both cultures, which isn’t the typical black woman’s experience. Therefore, she is NOT fully black. Most black women,

How are they the same thing?

This!!! I’ve loved Bey and DC throughout all the changes but she took the flack for decisions her father made. It hasn’t been all love for her, but I think she gets blamed for being focused on by her dad. That’s what dad’s do, put their daughters first lol.

Not to mention, they come into places where people are praising Beyonce with the dumbest, troll like criticism, then call the fans rabid and crazy. Why are you in a place critiquing an artist you don’t like? Could you just be TRYING to piss people off? And how are you critiquing someone you truly don’t like? I don’t

Thanks for the mansplain buddy. I said what I said. And I AM watching the show, wtf? LOL!

Also, mixed women aren’t fully black. They do NOT live the full black experience. There is a privilege they enjoy that fully black women do not. Colorism is the starkest example of that. Blackness is a diversity of experiences but mixed race women are typically put on pedestals that fully black women never experience.

It doesn’t matter what you find suspect. She’s the only regular black woman character in that entire show. That’s the point you’re missing. All the other characters in that show are fully fleshed out and male. The only regular female character in that show is his baby mama and clearly white adjacent.

Her character as a whole, not how she looks. Her background story and how she’s depicted as not a “regular” black girl. I don’t care what you believe.

It’s not about her skin tone.

Nor do you. You also don’t get to define what I consider white passing. And your NEED for her to be a POC still makes her other than black, which was the point here. She’s definitely not black. She gets treated like a white person, which makes her white passing. She receives white privilege which evidenced by this

Exactly. But these types typically have fragile egos who can’t take any criticism from black women.

I’m so excited about this because I’ve been RAGING on my FB timeline about this show. It comes(came) on right after Shondaland and I felt like that was SO disrespectful to absorbing all that black girl magic for two hours only to have to listen to his racist ass rant and rave (I know I could’ve changed the channel,

Exactly... and my perspective matches both the article and the OP. Thanks.

Right.... even his child’s mother on the show is only marginally black lol. There only other black women in the show exist as accessories... strippers, Mama, groupies, restaurant workers and a terrorized girl unwittingly a part of an armed robbery who just screams.

I REALLY wish there was a real black woman character.

She looks white to me. And she is white passing because she is being treated as such. Period. The end.

Oh, don’t my project my expectations on others, like you’re projecting yours on this thread? Gotcha. The person you quoted think she’s whit passing, and so does the author of the article. Which means you’re in the minority.

It’s like diverting every conversation to income equality when people are trying to talk about racial justice and female bodily autonomy.

Considering the NRA is what he wants black people trust while what happened with Philando Castile being a primary concern as to WHY many black people are against guns and the NRA, I’d say you’re wrong about it having little to do with the NRA itself. It has a LOT to do with the NRA itself.

Emma is white/white passing. This article is about black kids being ignored. There are Latino’s who identify as white as she is one of them, which is why they specifically went to Chicago to see how black kids deal with the while ignoring the black children in their own school. You didn’t make anything clear except
