I think a nice compromise would be using ‘Plex for Kodi’ plugin. I love the Plex interface but hate the fact that it transcodes most of my files. The plugin however has better playback capabilities and directly streams most media files while retaining the ease of use & slick UI of Plex.

Or just right click and select ‘Open’. You can run unsigned apps that way even if your security settings don’t allow it.
