1) Just out of curiosity, did you ever get to drive one of the Toyobarus that simply had the torque dip tuned out? It’s startling how much it changes the car, frankly.

Yeah no, more hate on the wannabe fascist and his supporters at all times, please and thanks.
I don’t say this to attack because it’s clear you’re trying to be self aware and not a prick, but please do be careful with saying things like “It doesn’t seem that hard to me to just watch your budget, and live within it”, especially if you come from a position of privilege and haven’t seen true poverty up close.
Yeah I definitely hate Trump a bit but I think that’s more a conversation with my therapist than saying you’re wrong to not hate him lol.
Replying to both comments here - my parents voted Trump twice and while I don’t get along with them at all, you’re right, that alone doesn’t make them evil. There’s a level of nuance at play here for sure.
How is it possible, after 4 years of this, that you still think these sorts of things are merely a fraction of the Republican Party. Like it’s some sort of unfortunate consequence that happened to them as opposed to something they engender and support, implicitly or otherwise.
Yeah I think a lot of people here aren’t getting your point. I’ve worked with Larson in the industry and am not actively rooting against him, but I also hear what you’re saying loud and clear.
Well not none. I used to work for NASCAR and got my start in motorsports working at Ganassi right as Larson was hired by them. There’s plenty of awful personalities in the sport, but Larson was always a pretty good one to work with.
I’m assuming you’re referring to the 5th gen Z28?
For the way those hold their value, I’d rather save up a bit more and get an Alpha platform SS 1LE, most likely. For the way I’m viewing this, I’d be more likely to overspend on an F-Body Z28 that’s been thoroughly track-prepped. I see those quite often for 15-20k,…
Yes and no. Historic racing is one of my favorite types, for sure. When I worked at VIR, and SVRA and HSR would come through, it was always a treat. And if I won the lottery, I’d take some classic American muscle and give in the half a million $ pro-touring build. But emphasis on the fact that I would need to…
Oh and here my jaded self is thinking a Jalop is calling a track-focused car a racecar and you’re talking about literal race cars hahaha
Yes. This is the kind of crazy I can get behind.
I’m assuming you mean the street car which is not a racing car... sorry, pedantic motorsport industry professional in me lol.
But seriously, that is a good example if I wanted to stay as close to stock as possible, yes. But most of the cars that close to stock I might look at would likely be cheaper than the average…
A well-prepped track day/weekend car.
I’m not paying dealer markup for anything new, I’m not paying extra for a pristine example of a classic or potential classic, I’m not paying a premium simply for “someone’s project”
Lol for sure. I personally started doing both at the same time and then actually parlayed a connection through my SCCA region into my eventual motorsports career (got really lucky!)
Yeah if that’s how you approach it and what you enjoy, that definitely makes sense. For me, I started autocross with a non-competitive STC car (Hyundai Tiburon lol) and had a blast, but wished I could try out a competitive car. Eventually I got to spend a season co-driving a competitive ESP Camaro and it wasn’t fun…
Ok gotcha. I see your point, but it also sounds like he could both buy this in cash and pay off his truck and he’s just choosing to invest instead, so I’m kinda feeling like he could take the bath if he doesn’t want to go the cheap route.
I think you’re reading “weekend car” as track car. If it was specifically to be a track car, I’d also agree with your assessment. But it doesn’t replace it as a weekend car. I mean yes you can track a weekend car but I think they’re different things.
In some instances I can get it. Like for example, I grew up 15 mins down the road from Tire Rack’s national HQ. They didn’t charge groups/clubs to use their test track (burn your tires up here, buy your tires here!), so from april through october, every day of every weekend was an autocross by various SCCA regions and…
I have 2 friends that have GT350s. One bought a 2017 and replaced the engine under warranty, but hasn’t had any issues since. One has a 2019, tracks it regularly, and hasn’t had any issues at all.
Only two anecdotal examples, but examples of why you should get one if you want it nevertheless!
He was burying the lede a little bit.
