Oh snap!!
Well, I never get (now or as a child) my hair braided by anyone who isn't licensed because my family knows too many individuals who have had permanent hair damage and loss from improper braiding and weaves.
Lawyer Jezzies, wouldn't this be considered a "crime of passion" which would remove the premeditation aspect? I mean, it seems like this man did not plan that he was going to kill this man. And frankly, I couldn't say how I'd react either if I walked in on someone actively molesting my hypothetical child.
Are we serious here? You ABSOLUTELY need a license before you start working with people's hair and skin. There is no way that I would patronize any individual who doesn't have any official documentation saying that they are qualified. And let them near my hair? PLEASE. Improper braiding technique can permanently…
And we have two winners of the ChellyO Side Eye Award today.
Well, I hate the timing of her character.
I have never said that this is the only way to administer discipline or that this is the only way that discipline is doled out in the black community. The line I believe you are referring to says if a parent believes that hitting a child is the only way to make them behave, then that is wrong. I have said multiple…
That's the saddest part about this whole affair. SO many people do exactly what their preacher says, just because he says it. If people will tithe instead of pay their bills because reverend says so, they absolutely will beat their children because he condones it.
Ah, Thanks for the clarification!
I disagree with your take on Megan.
Ah, so it's assumed that it's been handled.
That scene was great, especially because Pete was like"You can't throw me off!" and then the conductor did! I love when that smarmy little asshole gets what he deserves. Frankly, it doesn't happen enough for my tastes.
Thanks for your comment.
I agree with you. The worst part about the violence is not that it's a "You ran in traffic and I swatted your bottom and here's why this happened to you" (which I also find problematic, maybe to a slightly lesser degree) but most of it is "You said/did something that made me so angry that I am reacting out of violence…
"It's terrible that it's the ONLY way in the black community. If that's the ONLY way, they need some parenting classes."
"I think if they didn't slap some discipline into me, I'd probably be a wreck."
I think you meant the house and family that Pete neither wants or deserves.
As a black young female and the child of a woman who thought slapping me up until I was 17 for "disrespect" (and disrespect was anything from looking upset to not saying good morning immediately after waking up), the black community needs to move away from thinking that beating your children into submission is going…
YES THIS.
