NPH only came out after Perez Hilton outed him. So,I'm not sure if I would call that brave or damage control, but I digress.

I'm glad that this helped bring you awareness! Looking back, my parents picked up that trait from their grandparents (who grew up poorer and to whom having enough food was a bigger deal) and I really don't think that anyone was trying to forcefeed me. But it's been severely problematic and if I had been able to squash

If Kirsten and Diane's were the next best, then maybe we have very different definitions of fashionable.

Cool, thanks for that. Now, I want you to tell me how long your grandfather lived like that and if it would even be feasible for an American today to "save their pennies" to generate any sort of useful savings and buy themselves things.

You are exactly right and summed it up so much better than how I could say it.

Gen Y (for the most part) has just gotten to the point where everyone is voting and the oldest of us are about 30. It's definitely not our fault.

See, that's crazy.

I think that's a large part of the issue.

I don't know what's wrong with the Boomer Generation that they think it's a good idea to keep speaking ill of the Generation that's going to be stuck paying their Social Security and Medicare someday.

And then I will direct you to my second comment on this thread.

I loved me some Girlfriends, well before Toni left.

Thank you for your comments. And I really do appreciate a male perspective on Jez. Even more so that you watch Girls. I know very few women who are watching it, let alone men.

No. that's not necessarily the desired outcome. I don't want to see an equal distribution of race/class/ability if it's not going to be done well. Meaning that if Dunham had a "magical negro", a "sassy gay friend", and an "asian who did math", it would not be acceptable. I don't want to see diversity for diversity's

And are the experiences of black and white women who are of the same socioeconomic class really that dissimilar (Because I doubt that Dunham would have made any characters of a lower economic class than she is)? As a black woman who is of the same economic class (upper-middle) as her white counterparts, I would argue

Except it's 2012. People don't get to cry "groundbreaking" when it was already done years ago.

Her quote just kind of confuses me to be honest. She says that the experiences of Black and White Americans are quite similar. She then says that she wrote from the gut and then realized that the characters were all white. What?

Thank you for this. This right here is why I'm pretty uncomfortable with using the term "Feminist" to describe myself. It's easy for someone to tell me that I should stop complaining about the lack of diversity when there are shows with white women as the leads and there are very few accurate representations of women

See, I get that you and your friends may not perceive yourselves as similar to these guys and that is worth exploring. But any guy who says they've never known an extreme asshole who jerks girls around/using misogyny dressed up as machismo to get girls is being disingenuous. I mean, I see guys like that if I stroll

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not quite sure what I gain from having an interview where two guys basically say that no guy they've ever known has behaved like the male characters ever. Either they're lying or they're really that clueless.

Haha, I love those commercials.
