I feel like Dark Souls really pioneered this sort of crowdsourced lore generation, at least as attached to a high-profile video game. They establish very few concrete facts but provide a whole lot of evocative suggestions, then let the community come up with explanations.

Based on what the rep said here, it's  really not.  It's more like a picture (3d model, graphic representation, whatever) tied to a trophy.  Absent the ability to exchange them, you can't do any of the financial shenanigans that define NFT bulkshittery.
