Like most movies about plausible disasters, it can easily become a horror movie in the right context.

I’m actually remembering several of them: Gwyneth’s husband, CDC worker, Internet fraud, blanking, CDC official, blank, blank.

I wonder how many of the actors in it remember being in it. Christ, Dimitri Martin was in this.

I liked this movie for being about a devastating plague that isn’t civilization-destroying - like a modern version of the 1918 Flu epidemic. Showing what a massive medical disaster would look like without spilling over into apocalyptic cinema.

I’ve done it.  It can work if everyone’s on the same page, which is *clearly* not the case here.

This. It’s a book about a very specific background, and perfect at capturing that background. (I was Midwestern rather than northeastern US, but it still resonated with 16 year old me.) What The Bell Jar is for (white) overachieving young women of modest means, Catcher in the Rye is for (white) underachieving young…

Exactly.  Amazon didn’t buy Whole Foods because they wanted to continue to provide the “Whole Paycheck” experience, they got them because they wanted a national grocery store and WF was as close as they could get.

If I’m reading this right, they managed to go straight from sunlight + dirt to edible protein without the plant. Assuming this is both true and more efficient than actual crop farming, that’s a pretty amazing thing!

Also, I cannot believe people’s willful ignorance about the (underlying) reason they broke up: he wanted kids, she didn’t.  I don’t think there’s any better reason for a couple to split than differing desires for parenthood.

God I hope not. If there *is* anything new to say about war, something that humans have been writing about literally as long as they’ve been writing, I don’t think it’s going to be contained in a movie hoping to be broadly appealing enough gross well into nine digits.
