Wait, what? I saw the Japanese setting and mostly Japanese cast and *assumed* it was in Japanese.  That’s...yet another questionable decision made by the producers.

Not just gap in quality, but gap in tone.  The original Godzilla was a fairly effective effects-heavy (for it’s day) movie with a serious tone and moral message.  The sequels were men in obvious rubber suits pretending to fight each other.

Yeah, clearly Shannon didn’t get the AV club’s memo that Marvel movies are to be either ignored or derided.

I, too, have never heard of Branson, Michigan.

Yeah, SMILF had a creator who could legitimaely say she was only asking people to do things she was personally already doing - she just didn’t realize that didn’t make the asks OK.

Maybe “Carrie Nation Misery”?

Clearly they need to start mixing up the names.

T2's CGI only works as well as it does because the script gave them “the T-1000's made of mercury!” as an out.  Jurassic Park pulled off making the CGI and practical effects indistinguishable.

I mean, Mein Kampf was a “massively influential book” as well... 

Jesus, these questions. If the ask involves the word “tip”, you have to know Salty’s answer is going to be “Yes”, “More”, or “Yes, and more”.

That’s the thing - the mere fact that they’re adequate in 2019 means they were mind-blowing in 1995.

I think it’s hard for people to remember just how *amazing* the Jurassic Park dinosaurs were in 1995. We’re so used to realistic CGI now, but when the movie came out most viewers associated CGI with the look of Tron or Lawnmower Man - the realistic Raptors and T Rex were just unprecedented.

Amused at how words change - by the original meaning, Jaws is the exact *opposite* of the “ultimate” summer blockbuster.

But with the way they divided the story, it boiled down to punishing every nonwhite character who dared to act like the protagonist of a Star Wars movie.

Yeah, but it takes a genius like Johnson to turn one of those stories into a complete shaggy dog tale.
