Most gas stations sell pizza.  Most gas stations *don’t* prepare it from dough, cheese, and sauce in a dedicated pizza oven.

My wife moved to Wisconsin from Massachusetts, and notes that she’s traded a near-total lack of decent Mexican food for a near-total lack of decent Chinese food.

People have lived in war zones, and kids have grown up in them - we have cases we can study to see how people react.  We don’t have any real-life examples of societies going from chaos to first-world order and back again on an annual basis.

And is exactly the kind of fatal end-state of capitalism that Adam Smith warned about when he *invented* the term 300ish years ago.

This, incidentally, is why land destruction has been made non-viable for the last decade plus (as a primary strategy, anyway), and counterspells have gotten much, much weaker.

I give the Obamas more slack, because there’s only so many other people you can talk about *living in the White House* with.

I’m just stunned that this did so well outside the U.S.  The movie’s just a ‘70s Scorcese knock-off with a Joker skin - I didn’t think that would carry much interest in the wold at large.

The Confederate wearer doesn’t even have that excuse - the stars and bars have never meant anything *but* treason in defense of slavery.

Except, as pointed out, the chains *can* afford the rent and will make a killing if nobody else is around. I’d argue that’s still a major step in making the area less desirable, but local food probably isn’t accounting for much of SF’s skyrocketing rent.

Exactly.  She accomplished many, many things in her career, but remains the only performer to ever virtually service a creepy wookiee.
