And, to be fair, the route Pete’s taken is something that was simply never available to Peck. Not that I think Peck secretly yearns for “heteronormative bourgeois domesticity”, but him personally decrying it will always have an element of sour grapes to me.

“Who the hell cares about ‘legitimacy’?”

I once saw a dude without legs who was getting around on crutches, so clearly wheelchairs are a scam.

There’s people decrying the mods in this very thread, convinced that people are using it to do things they don’t have a right to.

No. No he is not right.

“Funky and Complex”

Which is saying something, because it’s pretty popular in the U.S.

If the player’s routine isn’t based on efficiency, that means you’re abandoning Skinner box gameplay - no more grinding to make the numbers get bigger. What are you replacing it with that will keep subscribers engaged for months? Folks gush about missing the wonder of discovering things in MMOs, but no studio can give

LotRO is tied to the Middle Earth IP. I can’t imagine that Daybreak has the rights to it in perpetuity, or that Amazon will tolerate there being another FtP Middle Earth MMO competing with theirs.

Precisely. People can, and have, made excellent Christian films. They cannot, pretty much by definition, make a good Christian-branded film.

I saw this movie with my family in the theater. My mom wanted to go because the trailer had some funny moments (as many as the full film, in fact). She apologized to us afterward.

I hear this a lot. And I hear it pretty much exclusively from people who don’t play MMOS. The sandbox approach gives people a lot more to write about, but every MMO that’s gone whole-hog on it has either folded or (in EVE’s case) been overrun by sociopaths. Massive freedom in a game sounds great, and it’s a lot of fun

It’s only “deeply stupid” after the game has evolved past it. And you don’t know what will be obvious to future strategists until you find it today.

Welcome to the inevitable endpoint of every competitive game: play to enjoy yourself, or play to win.

So you’re saying it accurately captures that DotA feel, then?

...for now.  I foresee a Galaxies-style mandated shutdown coming soon.

It started out as a mental exercise, but it took reams of data showing that the theory held up outside of a thought experiment before GMs and coaches were willing to put their jobs on the line doing things differently.

We’re not asking for a “Moonlight” - just a “Terminator” or “Total Recall” or, hell, “Twins”.  There’s a lot of daylight between “daring arthouse cinema” and “52% audience approval action film”.

It has made 3-point shooting a much, much bigger part of the game. It seems obvious that 3 is more than 2, but the 3 was in the game for decades before people rebuilt their ideas about the game around it.

Also, if any sort of pattern emerges in the people you’re summarily dismissing, expect that lawsuit to get serious consideration.
