I had little to no sympathy for her whingingness before I read this: “she could have gone to the university her sophomore year if she earned a 3.2 GPA at another Texas university school in her freshman year.” Now I find her entitled ass really fucking annoying.

The root reason that people disagree over this is that there is a conflict between whether a school should admit based on objective qualifications (test scores) or some combination of objective and subjective (are you a minority? are you a legacy?) criteria. Obviously you fall into the latter camp, so it’s dissonance

It bugs me just a bit that you felt you had to quit a lucrative gig because it offended your boyfriend’s finely tuned sense of social justice. From the way it sounds, you weren’t depriving a non-white student of a place at UT Austin; you were just indirectly helping prop up the delusions of adequacy of mediocre white

This is bizarre. You do realize that there are people who got in, of all races, with lower scores, correct? So why should she receive a message of “you did not earn it”. Because there is a POINT process that takes into account a host of other qualifications of which race is one. By your own logic her parents could

There is this meme that she only cared about race in her lawsuit and so she thinks that everybody else with lower grades who got in is “fine”.

That about sums it all up right there. Book readers went through a lot of trouble not spoiling anything big the whole time, but now you can see Jon Snow (alive) on every damn front page clickbait bullshit headline wearing Stark gear.

There were test like that in the past. They were mainly used to keep Black people from owning guns to protect their families from the KKK and such. They are used to be able to only have those who the cops favor as gun owners. This middle aged White woman would have most likely be granted a license still in a situation

The problem with this statistic (there are actually several on Kellerman’s methodology, but I won’t go into those here) is that the figure of gun deaths includes suicides, a more common cause of gun death in the home than homicides and accidents combined. One can reasonably conclude that, while a gun is one of the

She killed a man over a video game system because he resisted when they tried to rob him.

If you are selling on Craigs you better be packing!

The “real world has real consequences” look on her face is priceless.

40 years sounds about right

Gate has been used for like 25 plus years prior to gamergate. To think that it was immediately gamergate is so self absorbed it’s not funny. That one is such a huge stretch it’s insulting. It’s used all the time and isn’t remotely taken from gamer-gate in any way.

I had zero idea that Spades was an African-American thing. To me, it’s just a card game that I used to play with my cousins and my grandparents when we all got bored of Monopoly.

Spades is a black game? I never knew. I always just considered it remedial Bridge.

My family plays Spades religiously, and we all own PFGs, so this caucasian is ready to rumble with anyone. Also, I’ve only ever heard them called tricks, not books. Regional difference? White people difference?

god fucking damn it, the pull-out method. As a public health worker, I just have to cringe.

I’m not a crier. I rarely cry. But I cried now. What a brave woman. What a scary country we live in. I just dearly hope it doesn't get any scarier than it already is for anyone who is not a cishet white man.

How selfless and incredible of this woman to share such a painful, heartbreaking yet insightful story. So much love going out to her.
