Yeah when I heard a while ago they were going to make a V8 again for automotive applications, it was a real head scratcher

Because companies that build delivery and box trucks like FedEx and UPS uses already have engines that work. Why change the formula and order new trucks with an unproven engine? Many of them already use the 6.7 Cummins.

Wouldn’t be cost efficient given you’d have to add $10k in after treatment components and the wiring for it. On top of that, Cummins wouldn’t have anything to do with the transmission.

That the ISV engine needs to be bought by other companies besides Nissan. One company buying engines to put in a truck that’s in last place in sales isn’t going to keep Cummins interested in building those engines for a long period of time.

That’s not my point. Cummins sells the ISV to other companies besides Nissan. Small box truck, delivery trucks, etc. But from what I’ve been told by Cummins, nobody who makes those types of trucks is very interested in a brand new design V8 made by a company that stopped producing automotive type V8's almost 40 years…

I’m curious to see how long the Cummins ISV sticks around. Nissan is the only company that uses it in large quantities. News from Cummins about trying to sell that engine to other companies hasn’t been very positive.

I’ve never been in charge of operating a steam boiler so protocols involving coal, smoldering or otherwise, is something I’m unfamiliar with. But it seems people who were familiar with it didn’t think it was that big of a deal.

Their fuel was coal. So it would’ve been smoldering like a charcoal grill. It’s not like they had a fuel tank full of diesel on fire when they left port.
