I know I am in the minority, but I liked the Windows phone I had a few years ago (Lumia 690 I think) over Apple and Android products. I simply like the UI better. The screen was really clear too. However not having ANY apps was horrible.

The number of apps is irrelevant when there are like 200 versions of any one thing and most of them are crap loaded with tons of questionable access to your device or pushing a crap ton of ads. I would say more than half of the apps at any store Google or Apple need to disappear.
Microsoft, on the other hand, can’t seem to ditch the buttoned-up association it’s developed for making the work computer you don’t want to use.
it seems like giz always reports on Build in this bewildered normie-at-a-nerd-convention fashion, like they don’t get who the target audience of these events is supposed to be. This is not a consumer convention. We as developers, engineers, and creators don’t really care what consumer apps are getting released,…
“Its reputation is seemingly forever cemented by those old Mac vs PC commercials”
Typical anti-Microsoft hyperbole piece.
I was honna say that the sheer amount of apps doesn’t mean they are all quality. I’d bet you’d find generally more useful apps on the windows store versus google or apple. Most of the apps ive seen on ios and google in the tops lists are shovelware for the most part.
Yeah, this article is shockingly tone-deaf. It’s like they expected a dev conference to be a three-day glitzy product announcement show. It amazes me how off base Giz is when it comes to covering corporate-scale development stuff.
“If you’re excited about the Linux distributions Ubuntu, Suse, and Fedora arriving to the Windows Store, know you’re uncommon.”
I do my banking through Edge on my 950XL. The only thing I don’t yet have is being able to upload check images for remote deposit.
That’s a good point, transferring a lot of stuff out of Apple is possible except for the apps you buy. However, a lot of apps are free to play, so their save data should be able to transfer. A lot of apps stop getting updates, so they become obsolete regardless. Honestly, I don’t think vendor lock-in really is a…
and have spent hundreds of dollars in the ecosystem over the years
Windows for a phone was already late to the scene when Microsoft launched Windows Phone 7 in 2010.
You know windows phones OS is actually pretty great the problem is lack of app support and I blame Microsoft for that. They’ve basically pulled a Nintendo and failed to promote at all
I don’t hate my iPhone per se (I did before they fixed the music app) but I would swap it in an instant for a slick Windows phone.
I’ve never seen an adult male try to pull that shit but I would be equally if not more disgusted.
Taking this opportunity to say I can’t stand it when adult women get happy meals. You are not funny or cute, you are wasting fucking money just order off the dollar menu.
