I think Federer clinched his status at the greatest back in January.

He’s been up and down with injuries throughout his career. He’s on top of the world, then he’s injured and people aren’t sure if he can make it back (with Nadal himself usually foremost among that group). Then he recovers and gets back to business. Repeat many times over.
Oh really? So all the wild pitches and passed balls I’ve seen are intentional?
Or as Chris Rock said, “the white way,” which is what the “right way” generally amounts to now.
Okay, he aimed at Harper’s hip. What happens if he misses the target and beans him in the face? What happens if he severely injures or kills him? Football may rack up more injuries per game, but baseball is where something lethal is much more likely, or close to it.
It’s men. That’s really all there is to it (to me).
The only way out is for people to stop buying tickets on a mass scale. Or, you know, antitrust legislation or some other congressional action. I’m not sure which of these is least likely to happen, but I know that the odds of each need advanced statistics to be calculated.
Shades of Tyson-Douglas, with Douglas dominating overall, but also hitting the canvas and barely avoiding being counted out midway through the fight. The near-decisive uppercut is also what came close to finishing Tyson, and the end followed shortly thereafter for him.
Very well said. This is also directly related to the near-total passing of the WWII generation. There are only a comparative handful left, and more die each day. Our living memory of what came before us has almost completely faded away, and soon we’ll have nothing left but what has been passed down to us in books,…
To me, things like this are the NFL playing with fire, or working on cooking on their golden goose. Choose your metaphor. It’s also clearly about penalizing many black athletes for celebrating while black. Yes, I know that many white players celebrate a lot too, but I think the overall emphasis is to keep the…
I agree. Most people see “4 million” and think that’s a lot of money. It is in a way, but not really. It could have and probably should have been considerably higher. They also really got away with something by not admitting wrongdoing.
It’s obviously a good thing that he received some kind of settlement. It isn’t as big as it seems or should be, given attorney’s fees and other costs. Most important to me is the question of how many others have been in similar situations over the years, decades, and centuries and not had similar recourse and…
Who else immediately thought of or looked for LeBron after the pass from Curry to Iguodala?
I don’t know. I feel like it’s safe to assume that Rafa doesn’t have everything he used to, and that he’s half a step slower, if not an entire step. So too is Roger, of course. I just don’t think it would have gone any differently for him over the years with or without a new approach. It’s not like he wasn’t…
It’s fascinating how this kind of defense completely fails if you’re a child, but once you’re an adult (male), it seems to become widely accepted.
The teleprompters don’t show the winners, because no one other than the people set aside for just what happened tonight know the real winners in advance.
It’s all I’ve used. Lyft is great.
Super-unsurprising. He seems very grounded, in addition to being brilliant.
Wish I could have been there to give more applause than I’ve given anyone in my life to date, and then some. As I saw someone comment elsewhere, I hope she gets appreciated in defeat, because she never was properly appreciated when she was running or at any time before that.
Just know that most of us who live in the Phoenix area want no part of this, and think that it’s both ridiculous and unacceptable. It would never pass a vote, and it will be a serious problem for the political careers of any politician who supports a new stadium.
