Pre-pandemic I had an intermittent issue with a rental Nissan. During the trip I swapped cables with a spare in my bag and the issue went way. The previous cable still charged just fine, but for some reason it would flake out with the head unit.

When I make my rubs I like a little bit of celery salt rather than plain salt, especially on ribs. Let it rest in the fridge overnight if I can with the rub for a dry brine.
Also on bigger cuts (shoulders) I like to inject a marinade.
