You can just use the appropriate keyboard shortcut too. 1 = 10%, 3 = 30%, 5 = 50%, etc. The vid has to have focus so you have to click directly somewhere on it first, typically.
$50 says it kills something basic like GPS or the backlight on my keyboard, and that I have to root around xda-dev forums for days trying to find the solution.
