There is so much awful in this, but truly, the thing that will haunt me the most is that those little boys had to “sleep” next to their dead brother’s body all night. The terror and trauma of that is...well, it’s unfathomable.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Stay home with the kids, lose your job and end up homeless. Roll the dice by working and leaving the kids with your unstable boyfriend? Too many women face this choice every day. Especially when family members are dead or unfit themselves to watch the kids while you work.
