That's because Mass Effect 1 is actually fairly terrible in terms of gameplay (replaying it now, loads of frustration). Once you get the rebooted gameplay in ME2 and ME3, it's significantly more balanced between the classes. And in 3 everyone can use ALL the weapons.

@Frypot: You can also use Flak Jacket, in which case you will usually survive the explosion and the RC controller will start bitching about how you're a hacking cheater bitch. Always good for laughs.

@dead_alewives: The single player story is definitely a step up from MW and MW2. It's actually a narrative, rather than just some bullshit strewn together Michael Bay style.

@Faux Bravo: Halo Reach is basically that — visual doodads is all you get. But honestly that's kind of boring, and in Reach the cool ones are all uber expensive and you have to play for days on end just to earn one of them. I'm not that dedicated, and the multiplayer isn't actually all that satisfying.
