This reminds me of the "Girls" episode-before-last: Shoshonna is at a job interview. The job is marketing a freeze-dried, individual-serving soup. The worst part is, he probably didn't even write the fucking book. Or read it.

With all due respect, empathy, bitterness towards Corporate America, etc, I still have to say that these stories remind me of an old joke, the punchline of which is: "What? And quit show business?!!!"
