Indeed we do. We must put up the best and most zealous defense possible (within the bounds of law and ethics, of course), but not defending one of the very elements is plainly unethical — and would invite a legal malpractice lawsuit and a bar complaint (and rightfully so.)

fun fact. 3 years ago I was in LA’s main civil courthouse downtown. My client and I (and opposing counsel) were all waiting our turn at a very routine pretrial conference. There were at least 10 other cases on the docket just like ours.

I am. I’m white. Very white. I’m sickened and appalled. This breaks my heart. I wish I could apologize to each and every one of these young men for the way they were treated. And may justice be done to these white scumbags. They have sown the wind; may they reap the whirlwind.
