Pray that’s all that he does with it!

By *Chu’s* logic, yes. Anything that is difficult is done for stupid reasons. Did you read the essay?

Whenever I hear “Supernature”, I think of this Benny Hill sketch:

The last time that I ate at a Ryan’s I was a teenager. I gorged myself so much that I wasn’t feeling well afterward. As my family is making its way out to the car my stomach decides to let me know that it’s a little too full. I turn and expel about three pints of mac’n’cheese amongst other things but I distinctly

If you know anything about The Romanoffs, Matthew Weiner’s follow-up to Mad Men, it’s the preposterously loaded white cast.

At one time in my life, I questioned the necessity of unions in modern, industrialized nations; I knew they’d had their place, and been invaluable in earning workers the rights they currently enjoy, but I just wasn’t sure they were actually necessary anymore.

...then I started teaching, joined the faculty union at my

Noe strikes me as the perfect example of someone who is not nearly as deep as he thinks he is. I’ve enjoyed some of his movies to a certain extent, but... not much.

I disagree.  Not everyone wants their families dirty laundry laid out in public, especially when they have children.

Really? Beauty and the Beast just made 1.2 billion dollars last year. What other explanation do you need? Remaking their classics let’s them make big money off old IP. Anyone should be able to see the appeal to that even if they personally wish Disney would leave their old work alone.

Mmm, I’d be hesitant in making that comparison, it’s not like the Han Chinese aren’t a native people (even if there was longstanding conflict). I’d say a better comparison would be if the British incorporated the story of William Wallace where he’s having tea with the Queen.

Oh and just to avoid my own imperial mischaracterization - the general consensus among in-the-know scholars is that the Mulan story likely comes from the Xianbei people in a more dispersed manner. Sadly, no one really speaks Xianbei Mongolic anymore.

Of course, Mulan comes from a Mongolian story. The fact that it’s something we’ve received as a Han Chinese story is purely a function of Chinese imperialism. So...let’s find someone who can do it in Mongolian. (Which...I mean, that would be absolutely awesome!)

Periodic reminder that Mulan is not originally a Han Chinese story about defending the empire from Mongols, it is a Tuoba Wei Mongol story about defending the Mongols from the Chinese, which the Chinese empire appropriated. This is more or less the same as if you had a white woman playing Pocahontas in a story about

But then everyone will be up in arms if the dub isn’t performed entirely by Chinese or Chinese-American actors. And even if they do nail that, for some reason we’ll all just let it pass that Daniel Dae Kim and Will Yun Lee are in the dub.

Two words: stereotype; condescending.

So your issue with the Root is that they posted a correction to their story (which is very clear about showing their mistake)?

Oh, for dog’s sake. If somebody enjoys a well-done steak, just let them enjoy their well done steak. How exactly are they harming you? I swear, steak fanatics are worse than vegans when it comes to food snobbery.

Not giving a platform to him is not the same as ignoring him. They can talk about him and his dumb little rally without having him on to air his dumb views.
