16 year old me: “Ugh I got up too early and now I have to sit through Outside the Lines before we get to the good stuff — the SPORTS REPORTERS!”

As a kid, I always thought he was the boring, Teddy Ruxpin-looking motherfucker. Now, as an adult, I realize he’s one of the best reporters they’ve got there and is one of the few journalists working at ESPN that I actually think has serious integrity and talent.
I just... can’t handle it. I am going into sputtering convulsions at work because the more I try to not laugh the more I have to watch it, the more I laugh, the more I have to hide it and it never ends. It’s the “NYA NYA NYA” opening and closing jaw that really get me.
18 years since Men in Black and I still assume all of these dogs talk like Frank.
This place, Gawker (as a whole), not just Deadspin, has truly just become an echo chamber. Dissenting opinions are driven down as quickly as they can spring up. Everything is responded to with a “Nah” as if that is some legitimate response. It’s little help that most of the talented writers have disappeared, but the…
All we would really need is UEFA and the major European club teams/leagues to say, “Nope. We are not interrupting our season to play the World Cup in winter” and that would be a wrap.
Let’s start the list of people that if you criticize them, someone at Gawker Media will track you down, and write a long drawn out article whining about how you had the gall to “attack” someone that is apparently perfect and infallible.
But I think that’s sort of a general misreading of what “poptimism” is really about in a critical perspective. I don’t think even the stodgiest of Husker Du fans are fighting a “You shouldn’t like Taylor Swift” battle. Poptimism, to me, is the unrelenting cultural pressure to get on board the “Taylor Swift is one of…
Its becoming a little creepy how much the Kinja network talks about Taylor Swift. To the point where you guys feel the need to play White Knight as well.
Also, what tends to muddy up, for right or wrong, these indie v. mainstream debates is the idea that indie rockers are composing their own music while the power poppers are a product of a team of people carefully constructing every aspect of their music and public persona. You say Taylor Swift is capable of being an…
Speaking generally, I guess I just don’t understand, in 2015, what “poptimists” are so worried about. They’ve been utterly victorious. Every old dead cliche about a rock critic establishment that hates chart pop is just that: dead. Hipsters proclaim their love for all things chart pop. Every major music publication in…
I will never understand how people get so invested in the NHL winning on ratings.
Tampa - Calgary is right there with it.
Gary Bettman, everyone!
A possible Tampa Bay-Anaheim Stanley Cups Finals? I feel sorry for every program that potentially has to go up against this ratings juggernaut. Let's all pray for a Rangers and Blackhawks victory.
I’d pay extra for cable sports packages if it allowed viewers to hear what players - and managers/coaches - were saying.
Solid at being a corporate mouthpiece, and regurgitating “the brands’” talking points?
Not long after my wife and I got married, I found myself alone in the apartment with no food except for the remains of weeks-old birthday cake. I sat in the dark watching TV and ate it, and was surprised at how moist it still was after all that time. The wife came home from work after a while and turned on the lights,…
I had this thought. What if Dr. Yolo was an actual doctor and his actual last name was YOLO!? I feel much worse for THAT Dr. Yolo who probably has no idea what the hell happened or why he was publicly shamed on Magary’s heavily-traffiked Twitter feed. Then again, maybe the other Dr. Yolo has no self-awareness and also…
seriously ... I wish I could sticky your post. It is exactly the problem. For some reason people insist on siding with the owners...
