Netflix’s business plan is to have all their stuff streaming off the same menu, be it TV shows, new movies, old movies, whatever. That’s fine for them, but Cannes is under no obligation to capitulate. It’s not their plan.

What does that have to do with anything? If there’s neither proof nor witnesses the DA won’t charge anyone even if the crime is reported to have happened yesterday.

Also Cannes was designed partly to promote the cause of movies in France. Netflix will bypass its pro-streaming ethos to put its movies in a few US theaters in the States to qualify for Oscars but it won’t show the same courtesy to France.
