This does not have a viscous coupling. It’s an open diff. BMW used the brakes to control slip when things got slippery. I’m very familiar with this system as I developed the transfer case at New Venture Gear. Glad to see that it’s still splitting torque.

Just put new rear brakes on mine if you count a B7 Avant as vintage. Can’t wait for the snow to fall. Let the drifting begin!
