Because women are traditionally supposed to be demure and not laugh out loud uproariously as that suggests aggressiveness.

Just wondering, do you live in SF? Because what I have heard is that some people here (SF) do choose to live on the street, but that’s because it’s better than sleeping in a shelter. And part of the increase in the homeless population is due to people who were living here and eventually got pushed out due to rents

Making fun of Hillary’s laugh is similar to criticizing women for upspeak, saying “like,” using vocal fry, etc. It’s the kind of criticism that’s never leveled at men, and it’s something that’s routinely leveled at women to keep them in check and prevent their voices (literal and figurative) from being taken

how exactly is making fun of someone’s laugh “sexist”?

This is true and has been supported by research and data. I don’t have access to the numbers at the moment, but they know exactly how much is spent on housing someone versus repeatedly picking them up in an ambulance and delivering them to SF General (this is a huge cost to the city). It has been shown repeatedly that

You can thank Reagan for that; closing the mental hospitals in the eighties was touted as an act of compassion, since many of them were straight up hellholes. But he didn’t offer any alternatives; all those people were simply booted out the doors and told “good luck.” So for over thirty years we’ve had this patchwork,

Oh , you’re absolutely right. I didn’t go into that in the interest of not being So so wordy. But it’s truly part of the issue. The issue of homelessness is very complex, and one individual’s reason for being homeless is not the same as someone else’s. It’s multifactorial and alleviating has to be approached that way

I’ll agree that the exact problem is difficult to pin down, but it does feel sleezy to me.

Now playing

Samantha Bee and John Oliver have both truly picked up the torch where John Stewart left off. Not only are they hilarious, but their pieces are well researched and informative of some of the untold history behind major modern day political issues.

I think it has more to do with comparing a woman to a scavenging animal that is generally used to represent “crazy” and less about her actually having a strange laugh.

Well a common sexist stereotype of woman in power is that they’re shrill.

because they are insinuating that her laugh is too loud, too aggressive, too much and she should be relegated to tiny giggles behind her hand like a good, docile woman would. I mean, can you believe her audacity to actually laugh her real laugh??

It’s true and it’s an issue that should be more thoroughly addressed. But the majority of homeless people are homeless because they can’t afford housing. That’s an issue that can be addressed more easily. And would drastically reduce the number of homeless people.

It’s amazing. I look like a psycho when I watch it. There’s a lot of clapping my hands together and yelling “suck it, assholes!” She does not pull her punches.

You SHOULD feel guilty. Get on that shit. It’s worth it. Even if you have to give up something else to make the time!!!

Agreed. A portion of the homeless are severely mentally ill and either have no access to mental health services, or aren’t compliant in their treatment plans and have family who have completely given up on them. Another portion are addicts who are in and out of treatment facilities/jail or who shelters won’t house due

I think the homeless population is more violent simply because there is a higher population, and they live in tents towns. High populations of untreated mentally ill people usually ends up being trouble for all those involved.

I’m guessing it will cost SF less to house homeless people than it does to combat them.

Part of the problem no one talks about are many of those who are homeless choose to be homeless. My wife works at a VA and many of the regular homeless actually have their own apartments or places to live. They are just mentally ill, or simply like life on the street.
