Oh, that's shitty. It sucks being harassed for something as asinine as having a Planned Parenthood sticker.

Ooh ooh ooh! This is perfect—I just posted this pic in the little offshoot forum yesterday. I actually worked for her for a few years before going back to school, and it was one of the best experiences of my life.

I don't know if you can still order the originals anymore. (they were sold through the Third Wave Foundation, I believe, in conjunction with the documentary). I think Planned Parenthood was selling a version at some point, though. Maybe they still are?

Who's "minimizing the suffering many women go through?" She's saying it was the best choice for her; it'd be insulting for her to act as if she could personally account for every single woman's feelings about their own abortions.

This is awesome. It's time to pull out my "I Had an Abortion" t-shirt (from J. Baumgardner's project, which also included a wonderful documentary of the same name). If I had a million dollars, I would buy this t-shirt for anyone who wanted to wear it.

A couple of years ago my boyfriend and I made a bet: could Mindstorm be crafted into a sex toy (for him/men)?

Trade secret: I have a friend who was a tobacco lobbyist in Washington, DC. Every so often, Congress would attempt to introduce anti-tobacco legislation (higher taxes, funding for health care, etc). If the legislation was going to be costly for Big Tobacco, they would pull out their "special card." They would tell the

You're funny. That whole "You're in high school and obviously know nothing about economics" cracks me up. Good job, junior.

In Russia, the people were told that capitalism was going to bring new, unprecedented prosperity. In fact, it brought unprecedented poverty, indicated not only by a fall in living standards, not only by falling GDP, but by decreasing life spans and enormous other social indicators showing a deterioration in the

Yeah, your comments have demonstrated an embarrassing lack of knowledge about basic macro/microeconomics, as well as a poor understanding of history. This thread's surreal—I can't believe I've just read that socialists believe capitalism is the best alleviator for poverty. That's absurd.

Thank you so much for putting the human experience at the center of these economic and ideological issues. It sounds like your experiences have given you a compassionate, logical worldview that will greatly benefit society; you've also eloquently defined what the definitive problem with libertarianism is: an

Wanted to actually see what kind of 'research" those "scientists" did in order to come up with this bogus conclusion.

No, their "science" (research) says that there's no scientific evidence supporting the notion that your relationship was a product of a match using scientific methods. Did you read the paper?

That's slightly disrespectful. The authors are real scientists. The whole point of the paper was to rein in the irresponsible "pop science" that these firms use by recommending their process be put through scientific evaluation.

Aha! It all makes sense now.

Have you read the paper? It's rather long (60 pages) but again, it addresses your questions (I'm only asking because I don't want to keep putting up these walls of text/evidentiary support from the paper if you've read it).

This is actually addressed in the paper. The table presented shows that the algorithms at various dating sites are using similarity most often for their matching.

There were several dating sites (ScientificMatch, GenePartner) mentioned in the paper that incorporate DNA into their matchmaking formula. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we see the MRI requests.

I haven't read The Freedom Maze, but I'm not quite sure I understand how a book about American slavery represents Libertarian ideals. Market forces didn't end slavery in the US; government intervention did. Libertarian ideology actually maintains the position that the government should have no role in contractual

I don't mean to pry here, but...are you...um, are you ok? Like, you're not suffering from dehydration or anything, are you?
