Every time I’m reminded that Do The Right Thing didn’t win Best Director and Picture, I’m re-infuriated. It’s a masterwork, and it’s going to be remembered at least as long (and more favorably) than everything else it was up against in 1989 and the 2-3 years around it.

There’s an alternate reality where somebody mentions that Chris Pratt was almost cast and everybody says, “Wait, the chubby guy from Parks and Rec?”

I’m still mad I didn’t get to see him as StarLord.

LOL

I think Peele got to have his cake and eat it, too. The original ending is what everyone thinks is going to happen right at that moment, so you get that bit of commentary very strongly, even if it’s only implied. Then you get the immense relief of a still perfectly plausible alternative (we know Rob’s been tracking

I thought it would be the change at the very end. In the original, in the end, a policeman arrests Chris and he goes to jail, because all the evidence was burned in the house. They changed to his friend Rod driving the police car to rescue him.

That was a smart change.

So the alt-right boycotts were about as successful as their Star Wars attempts? I hope they aren’t tired of winning so much.

Overall I hope history will be somewhat kind to Craig’s run at Bond. Casino Royale was flat-out great, and Skyfall is going through a big backlash period at the moment but it has a lot to recommend (not least of which is the sight of Bardem and Deakins, both completely going for broke).

Which half of the Krasinski-Blunt couple, do you suppose, forced the film’s producers to cast the other spouse in this film?

That would be very cool. I wish it included them too, though I’d imagine (if it was even under consideration) that it would have been a fierce debate over altering the content of a masterpiece.

I’m not a fan of every one of his reviews. I see his importance though in the general history of culture and film critique.

Not to be a critical Chris, but the photo at the top kind of ruins the punchline.

The trailer alone got my heart beating hard and gave me at least one unpleasant jolt. The image of the son seeing his smiling reflection. BAM! That did the trick.

No one will be an Ebert anymore. The proliferation of online reviewers means no one critic is going to dominate or be a big TV draw. Roeper at least has some fame and if they get rid of him over something minor like this, they are foolish.

If he knew he was buying fake followers, that’s an ethical red line that he shouldn’t have crossed.

I fail to see what he did wrong. It seems on par with getting hair transplants. Who gives a shit?

But there are already plenty of games that fulfill that need of being immediately satisfying and rewarding - that’s the cornerstone of the entire video game industry. I don’t think it’s unacceptable by any means for one game among many to go out of its way to provide a distinct and new experience, even with the

This isn’t ridiculous though, SOTC is one of the best video games of all time, and making it easier for people to play long after it came out isn’t a bad thing.

Tbh I really don’t see the problem with rereleases, though if there was any way to collect data on how work on remakes affects the industry as a whole I would be interested in seeing it. The complaining just seems a little elitist to me, if it’s a good game I don’t see why it shouldn’t be as accessible as possible. If
