Yeah, it’s easy to make fun of Jost for his...Jostiness, and he and Che were pretty rough early in their tenure. But they’ve become genuinely quite good, and the joke swap is a really inspired bit — Che’s genuine terror when Jost made him read jokes mocking Kendrick Lamar was sublime, for example.

I also think the hosts who are primarily or exclusively writers on the show, not cast members (Jost, Che, Meyers, Fey) generally works better. It’s a nice change of pace to have people who seem like they are actually talking to you normally, not playing a “newsman” character.

Update is the one part of SNL where you can kind of be a little loose. Fey, Fallon, Poehler, Meyers, they all embraced that. One of my favorite Update moments was after the 2020 election. Everyone was on the high of Trump being gone. Che had his tie undone and he was sipping a Negroni on-camera.

For what it’s worth, I think Jost and Che are pretty good. They have good chemistry together, which helps.

Yep. SNL requires one to REALLY love the grind, a hardcore cocaine addiction, or both.

Her brand of pop-feminism and girl power (TM) always felt fake. Maybe it isn’t fair to compare her popcrap with actual feminist artists and bands (e.g., Bikini Kill, Huggy Bear, Bratmobile, Sleater-Kinney, Team Dresch, Djunah, Skinny Girl Diet, Mary Bell, etc.), but yeah, she seems to adopt some of the most

I’m happy to be corrected if there are Perry fans around who can set me straight but it sure does *seem* to me like she enjoys a certain degree of pop “girl power” appeal that is in actuality mostly lip service. She *seems* like the kind of person who uses sex positivity as a cloak for indulging exactly the kind of

Great episode! So fun.

She got taken down the way she did because her asshole behavior behind the scenes was such a direct counterpoint to the goofy, “Watch me dance!” persona she utilized on the air. She was smack in the middle of the road with that show, with conservative housewives all over the country loving her. It’s not exactly like

People are ignoring Lower Decks? It got five seasons and a SNW crossover that sent people into paroxysms of joy.

Exactly, if they can do the job who cares who their parents were. Jack Quaid is a talented actor and has the charisma, Wyatt Russel is great, Bryce Dallas Howard can act and direct, Sophia Coppola because a great director(just don’t let her act).

He is great on Lower Decks. Lower decks, in general, is a lot of fun and a surprise. People shit on Discovery(unfairly imho) and Picard(fairly there, especially season 2) but they ignored both Lower Decks and Prodigy and both of those are solid additions to the Star Trek Cannon. Season 2 of Prodigy even has a line

She’s going to host a goodbye party for Ellen that Ellen will later deny being invited to.

Dakota Johnson is celebrating somewhere right now

All the talk the last week about Dems panicking made me realize you never hear about Republicans panicking. They’re like cats acting like everything’s fine no matter how much they just embarrassed themselves.

There’s a strong scent of nihilism in the current air. Also, people aren’t offered solutions to the many looming and ongoing crises (or rather ones where they don’t have to move out of their comfort zone), so a win for them becomes less about improving the future and more about making it worse for the people they hate.

If Trump gets back in to the White House, American democracy is over.

This was my first thought as well.

People who are abusive in private are generally very good at manipulating their way out of the accusations in public.

Wait, that isn’t Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita Wurst in the title pic?
