My understanding (which may be outdated) is that there’s a big salary difference between the mainline pilots and crew (United / Delta / AA branding and full size airframes) and the regional carriers (United Express / Delta Connection / American Eagle flying RJs). The latter are nominally provided by third parties and

So stop for a cup of coffee or some lunch / dinner half way while your car is charging.

They need to be sentenced to the same prisons they used to work in.

Stopping once every 5-6 hours for 7 minutes is not a normal use case for most humans.  There’s no need for electric cars to try and meet this completely unrealistic scenario

The key in my planning is Medicare not Social Security. I’d retire today if there were single payer available, but I’d be paying >$15,000 a year for shitty health coverage if I did that. So I’ll keep my good job and health coverage, keep maxing out my retirement savings, wait till medicare kicks in and then figure

Considering congress is 75% geriatrics and people over 60 are by far the most reliable voting bloc, I think that’s less likely.

We live in an almost 200 year old house and the challenge we face is that most “professionals” don’t know about or care to learn about adding efficiency to buildings that old. It’s been six years since we moved here and I’ve yet to find a contractor who will even show up to look at the attics and give a quote for

It’s also a consideration on the Cessna 402s that Cape Air fly now. I’ve seen them weigh passengers if they don’t believe the person quoting their aspirational or college weight.

And if you are a big guy you often get to sit in the co-pilot seat.  I’m 6'2" 225 and most of my flights on Cape Air have been in the “don’t touch anything” seat.

If only there were some other way to accidentally charge someone for something other than scanning a barcode?

I 100% guarantee that the people who put up that hideous wallpaper in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s thought theirs was “timeless” and “stylish” too.

Agree with all you say except the last part. The Acela and NE Corridor is the *only* profitable part of Amtrak. They make plenty of money and most trains are sold out the majority of the year (and a functioning ownership would look at that and add capacity, but that’s not how Amtrak is run)

Yup - five at-grade crossings on the “Acela” lines within a ten minute drive of my house. Never going to have true high speed until those are addressed.

I was flying out of Biloxi MS airport a few years ago and the guy in front of me had an absolutely massive handgun in his carryon - think Desert Eagle or similar. Not sure how you can “forget” a gun that is close to a foot long and must weigh a few pounds. The TSA agent handed it right to him and he wandered off to

They take up a huge amount of room, though - so unless you live in a 5000 sq ft home in a suburb somewhere they may not be practical

And will that cost be 3-5X the regular price as it is currently?

They can just declare the whole state a low emission zone (like an increasing number of cities in Europe). You *can* drive into the city / state in a gas/diesel vehicle but it will cost you. It’s currently over $300 a day for a truck over 3.5 tons that doesn’t meet emissions standards to drive in central London.

Full size pickups and Jeep Wranglers - which ironically are first vehicles of choice for a large proportion of kids in the US and Canada.

EVs for business rentals makes sense for a decent proportion of my work travel - but I’m very curious to see whether they are going to require you to return it “full” or try to charge 3-5X regular rates for any shortfall.

Wasn’t the guy on fire Steve Matchett who used to be one of the US broadcast’s commentators?
