That isn’t really a *counterpoint.* It’s just evidence that this problem predates Disney.

What I really hated about the pacing of the middle movie of the trilogy was how the characters were separated and then half of them went to this weird, bizarre location that ultimately had no impact on the plot and was utterly forgettable. THAT FUCKING ASTEROID, MAN. MYNOCKS? SPACE SLUGS? BORING!
“And if a character becomes a Jedi that was not genetically a clone or child of another Jedi, that is ALSO bullshit!”
“creatd by ALL LIVING ThINGS—”
“CLEARLY GIVEN HER FIGHTING STYLE IN TFA REY IS A CLONE OF PALPATINE AND RIAN JOHNSON IS DUMB FOR NOT PICKING UP ON THIS.”
No, they just confuse the rules of paper and pencil RPGs with the rules of narrative. “WE DIDN’T KNOW LEIA HAD INVESTED EXPERIENCE POINTS INTO LEVELING UP HER FORCE POWERS, SO EVEN THOUGH WE’VE BEEN EXPLICITLY TOLD THAT LEIA IS STRONG IN THE FORCE, IT MAKES NO SENSE THAT SHE WOULD DO THINGS THAT PROVE SHE IS STRONG IN…
io9 comments then: “It was just that excitement of feeling our commenters were full of knowledge and there might really be a community of other science nerds out there that I could just chat with and have a really friendly conversation.”
io9 comments now: “BOO RACISM DOESN’T EXIST I H8 SJWS TALK MORE ABOUT NARUTO”
That was the real gutwrench. Not only the “haahaha let’s make silly jokes about this woman who suffered” but also the “God DAMN it I wish we had the diary of her abuser who was actually important instead of this NOBODY”
They’re not anti-Christian. They’re likely Americans with shitty history textbooks repeating 19th century nonsense histories widely rejected by the academy today.
Landis is an asshole and likely abuser. But he’s not responsible for Bright’s shitty writing— and “Ayer penning the next script” won’t be an improvement. Landis’ script is out there. Ayer rewrote it.
One small note: parents pressuring him into being an accountant isn’t a Grace thing. That’s canon. See his first solo miniseries.
That’s very, very fitting!
1. Books don’t sell if you don’t invest in them (particularly if you don’t market them). 2. People don’t take a chance on fringier titles if they know marvel’s going to cancel them in just a few issues. (compare DC’s Rebirth to Marvel’s Legacy, how they handle low selling titles, how they handle a diverse line in…
At least Ewing is going onto the main Avengers book— he may very well start to build an audience/ influence the main line soon!
A bit disingenuous just to drop in “written by Max Landis.” The screenplay is out there— Ayer’s movie is quite a bit different from Landis’ actual script.
Angela underperformed because the marketing it did have was *wrong.* It was advertised as another Thor opera comic— but it was cheaky, funny, and self-aware along the lines of Gwenpool.
He was able to turn the “Iceman is gay now: the Comic Book” into an entertaining slice-of-life ongoing with diversions into bits and pieces of Iceman continuity. Was it the best X-book? Not by a long shot. Was the worst? It was far more interesting than the stumbling, generic Gold. It was far more fun than the…
America had *great* ideas. I’d love to see Rivera as a *co*-writer on some project in the future. Now, Rowell and Grace— they’re fantastic. Marvel needs to hold onto them. Grace especially has done *wonders* with an incredibly tough assignment.
“This goofy barely-in-continuity joke comic by the Dinosaur Comics guy has art that is cartoony and not in the normal marvel house style!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”
The second Secret Wars? Where the Beyonder just kind of wandered around the Marvel Universe killing/ resurrecting people and sulking until Spider-man taught him how to poop?
(This is not a joke. That is the actual plot of Secret Wars II)
“In an attempt to cash in on the original Wolverine’s popularity without rushing to bring him back from the dead too soon, Marvel’s recently introduced a whole slew of Logan’s “children””
More like “In an attempt to advance Laura’s growth as a character, Tom Taylor, writer of the very critically acclaimed All New…
The new 52 Batman mostly carried over pre-52 continuity, and runs continued uninterrupted. It just also gave lip service to the idea that Batman had only been around for 5 years (and as already on his fourth robin)
