I love watching speedrunning videos on YouTube. A well-executed speedrun is enormously satisfying to see, and I have a lot of admiration and respect for speedrunners. I also know that if I ever tried to do it myself, my short attention span and lack of patience would cause me to ragequit in about 45 seconds.

GDQ is about the only time I actually spend any time logged into Twitch. But then it runs nearly constantly on one of my screens. Games Done Quick is a twice-a-year indulgence that I adore every single time. There’s probably no world records being broken at them, but it is ridiculously fun watching these games being torn apart in front of a live crowd of people genuinely as fascinated and excited as I am. The bonus that it’s all done in the name…

As someone who writes for another site, this is indeed how it works — sometimes. Every so often you’ll get a command from on high to write about a specific topic in a specific way, and you’ll never be told why. Metrics and data is my best guess.

I’ve developed a grudging respect for Gaga’s work. Yes she’s over the top but at the end of the day also incredibly talented. I think what tipped me was seeing her perform Edge of Glory unaccompanied at a piano and just crushing it. Huge voice from such a small frame.
