I was there when it happened; a lot of it had to do with timing. It was released around Christmas '97 so this run was during the first few months of '98 when the movie season is traditionally at its lowest.
Among the list of movies it kept from the #1 spot were "The Wedding Singer" and the aforementioned "Spice World."
