Right?? I keep asking myself the same thing. I *never* put my hand over my heart for the anthem, I did it for the pledge (which is creepy in retrospect, but nevertheless). Once in a while I would see someone put his/her hand over their heart during the anthem, but it was never an across-the-board thing.

When the hell did the hand over the heart thing jump from elementary school Pledge of Allegiance to the National Anthem?
