Andrew Keir was Quatermass in “Five Million Years to Earth”.
Can we also call a mora-bloody-torium on kid-friendly “parodies” of stuff that’s for grown-ups? Kids don’t get the references and when they finally see the original material, it’s been spoiled for them: “I don’t understand Dracula! I’m halfway through the book and he’s not counted anything yet! He just goes around…
Lovecraft’s racism was extreme even for his time. He hated other white people if they didn’t come from a specific area of England. He once wrote a poem called “On the Creation of the N****r”. He married a Ukranian Jewish woman because she assimilated well (and when he got angry he would assail her with unhinged…
Red Hook, one of his worst (as in most racist) stories, gave me the vibe that his bigotry was coloured in part by some kind of agoraphobia. It’s not a take I ever see much talk of though (and I should not I’m not a doctor).
To be fair, I don’t blame you for not reading 60,000 words about a movie nobody is ever going to watch.
I'd say that someone writing ten pages on how a kid's movie about Lovecraft is horrible because Lovecraft himself later exposed a very sheltered ideology... Yeah I'd call that crying and lamenting. The guy wrote a damn treatise on a kid's movie.
I mean while, yes, Lovecraft was super-duper-ultra-even-other-contemporary-racists-were-like-yo-wtf-chill racist, I feel as though it’s rapidly becoming the literary equivalent of John Lennon The Wife Beater meme.
...Monstrous and nebulous adumbrations of the pithecanthropoid and amoebal; vaguley moulded from some stinking viscous slime of earth’s corruption, and slithering and oozing in and on the filthy streets or in and out of windows and doorways in a fashion suggestive of nothing but infesting worms or deep-sea…
This sounds amazingly bad, and the article was a really fun read, I’m going to try and track this down for cheap on either ebay or Amazon and buy it asap, and then give it to both of my Lovecraft loving friends who I am sure will find it ridiculously awful too!
Edit: Hmmm, seems like it never got a UK release. So I’m…
I also posted hbomberguy’s video but you described it way better than I did.
Maybe you should ask why there’s so many Queer Lovecraft fans in the first place?
Java always wants an update !!!! No ! Tomorrow. Tomorrow. Tomorrow (4 years lateeerrr *)
I’ll have to watch Die Farbe... I generally have avoided adaptions. But it’s been mentioned more than once here, so I’ll give it a shot.
What Mr. Cameron fails to mention is that this change was proposed for the Chromium Project.....which is open source.....which means other browsers other than Google Chrome use it.
So yes, Google wants to make changes that benefit their own browser but that kind of screws over everyone else’s browser.
This an excellent time to plug Die Farbe, a German film, which portrays the color by having everything else as black and white. It’s probably the best adaptation we’re gonna get, even with this news.
Firefox, always.
Firefox it is
Hopefully they’ve watched HBomberguy’s video on how to adapt Lovecraft in the 21st century. I’m sure they have.
Cool. Hardware is an underrated splatterpunk movie.
