Illness as Metaphor by Susan Sontag. I think it comes together with her later work AIDS and Its Metaphors. It’s not a memoir, but Sontag wrote it while being treated for breast cancer.

Tending Lives, by Echo Heron

The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee. He talks of his career as an oncologist as well as telling the history of the fight against cancer. Fascinating read.

You should order Chinese. That’s what the lawyers on TV always do in these situations. Eat it straight out of the carton.

How was women’s day? I had the best time. Taught my older daughter to multiply multiple digit numbers (she’s 7 and yes I’m bragging) and then took my little mathematicians out to the observatory at night where they got to hear a talk about Canada’s first woman in space and learn how to use the telescopes.

Fully

This is the first time I’ve seen a SNS post go live and I’m going to waste my “first” post to share this stupid picture of how I’m storing my hats:

Not sure why you think staples aren’t commonly used to close a variety of minor and major wounds.

Same here. It is really hard. And my abuse started when I was 3-4, which logically I know that no person would ever blame a child that age, but I do. I mean, part of it was the grooming aspect and that it went on for years, which made me compliant and feel complicit, but I really do struggle with feeling responsible

What Jane said hits so close to home for me. I am intelligent and as feminist as they come, and logically I know that rape is never the fault of anyone but the rapist. But knowing that logically doesn’t always translate into applying it to yourself, or at least it didn’t for me. I would NEVER blame anyone else for

I’m not pregnant nor do I intend to be (for the reasons you mention, among others; power to you woman!) but I would love to take a period dump on his face. Cause that shit is the worst.

No. Misspelling a word and accidentally landing on a different word doesn’t mean you didn’t misspell.

Now playing

Still one of the best John Oliver segments, even though it’s over two years old:

I knew a Kylie who was better than Minogue and Jenner put together, but she did not survive 2016.

Not an accurate test. I’m a ginger yet see my reflection.

But Jean Ralphio had brown friends. I would take Jean Ralphio over what we have.

There are some great resources for parents and teachers to address these topics. Here are few of my favs (I am a teacher with a master’s degree in Educational Media and Media Literacy concentration)I hope you find some usefull info!

THIS.

“you aren’t from here. This is just how people talk.”

I learned to crochet the pot holders my grandmother used to make. I’m not good at any unusual stitches or counting out patterns, but it’s a simple enough pattern to stitch around. I make a few at a time, and then have to re-learn how to crochet when I want to make more later.
