Counterpoint, I think the Supra is a great value.

Yup. Ford dealership employees like to joke that they are, “the opposite of green.”

What’s more interesting is that the automaker did it rather quietly with no real fanfare.

Total Cost of Ownership is more important than sticker price. In six years, this Polestar will be worth $10k or less, while the Accord hybrid will still be fetching high 20s. And the Accord will still be on the road in 2050, if you keep up with maintenance. Parts for the Polestar will be completely gone by 2035.

For $3MM, it’s probably better to buy a plot of land ever further from civilization and build a new track.

I mean, prepped surfaces are pretty sticky. Like, you have to wear boots to walk on them because they will take the sneakers right off of your feet sticky.

I agree, 20% margins are solid for a small business providing a service like this.

The Volt’s propulsion system is nothing like Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive. Nevermind, the Prius debuted in the late 90s and was on it’s third generation when the Volt was released in the early 2010s.

Feel like Toyota got a lot of hate for their failure to jump straight into EVs

This is a weird submission. Restoring an old car is always going to be ridiculously expensive. Especially if your goal is to only use factory parts. The reason for this program is to get the car back into the condition it needs to be in to be road legal again. Japan has very strict laws for vehicle road-worthiness,

$100/ga is hyperbole, but cheap, readily available gas isn’t a given.

That is not impressive anymore. And you arent correct anyways

I’ve never understood the hype on the new Supra (other than the name), you have the worst of two worlds; BMW mechanical reliability and Toyota overdone design.

The base Z competes with the 2.0T Supra in terms of performance. The quarter mile times are identical but the Supra, even in 2.0 spec, destroys a stock Z in the handling department.

I don’t get the impression that new car buyers are hugely price conscious. Hence the incredibly high median new car price.

You don’t actually need all-wheel drive. I understand why it would feel like you do, but I promise you the extra money you’d spend to get all-wheel drive would be better spent on a set of winter tires.

Too bad the headlights have that stretched back look that feels really dated to me. The Toyota Celica had those headlights in 200o, it’s time for them to go away.

The car is still better off with a four cylinder.

I’ve long agreed. We need a cultural shift away from, “why buy a new Honda Civic when you can get a used Lexus for the same price”, towards, “buy a new Honda Civic instead of a used Lexus.

“Consensus is growing that the U.S. economy, the job market and auto sales will continue to be resilient,” GM Chief Executive Mary Barra told investors in a letter.
