So while they may have $1MM in the stock market, they can’t actually pay for the car out from their stock earnings.

New car buyers probably do adhere closely to that rule. It’s just that new car buyers also have household incomes many multiples of the median. Something like 29% of the entire income earned by Americans is earned by the top 8% of households. Meaning, that other 71% had to be shared among the other 92% of people.

Listen to any financial guru you want to, whether that’s Suze Orman, Dave Ramsey, or Caleb Hammer, and they’re going to tell you that you shouldn’t spend more than 10 percent of your take-home on a car payment.

I’m okay with average. Sure, skew pushes average upwards, since the underlying distribution of car prices is not normal. But there’s no clear analytics value in bifurcating sales data.

The Average American is not buying a new car. There are 130 million households in the USA and only 13 million new cars were sold last year. So each holdhold only buys a new car once every 10 years, and with 2.5 adults per household, that works out to a new car per person every ~25 years.

At $38,990, the base Model 3 sedan now costs $8,700 less than the average amount paid for a car or truck in the US.

Running an 8 second quarter mile in a street car on street tires is an astonishing accomplishment. And the fact that pretty much anyone can pull off that feat is also incredible.

Fuck these cars. They aren’t luxurious, they aren’t fast, really, they have no redeeming qualities beyond parts availability and being easy to work on. It’s a huge car with macpherson struts up front and a solid rear axle. Which is basically an economy car setup that gives terrible road manners.

That way he can park his Camry pretending to be a Lexus

It will not come as much of a surprise to learn that Pinnix has been fired from her job at Capital Rx where she was a talent acquisition specialist, whatever that means.

CEOs listen to the talking heads instead of the market.

The range anxiety thing is blown way out of proportion with the general public.

Hybrids continue to outsell EVs in the US, with sales approaching 1.4 million vehicles this year, versus nearly 1.2 million full electrics

Good.  We want more new cars sales in order to drive down used car prices.

The 4 Runner is ancient, but it’s also rock solid. It deserves it’s reputation.

I also think there’s a difference between saying “this car is for women/lesbians” and “this car is for people who are inconsiderate.”

Or perhaps he was a bit mad before & the accident showed him the true depth of the poor repair & that escalated things?

I don’t think this was a two-years-long grudge.

but Occam’s razor would suggest the gentleman in question probably suffered some brain damage in his recent car crash (it was serious enough to total his car) and that,

I’d still take a 4Runner over this (or a Rav4 if I had to have a crossover).
