Surely there are better ways to improve CAFE than removing the ability to drive a car smoothly?

Yup, give me the automatic, that MT-82 is trash.

Frankly, that has described some of BMW’s non-M/M Performance cars with manual transmissions in the past. I drove a 2013 535i with a 6MT and was thoroughly unimpressed. It just felt rubbery and vague.

I legitimately enjoy cars mods that make people say, “that’s stupid, you’re destroying the <car>“

Why? Pretty much every modern car is laden with a bunch of compliance BS that makes the cars look worse. Amber reflectors on the fenders, colored headlights, minimum ride heights, etc.

I’ve been seeing OEM+ extend to things that “should have been” on the car from the factory and not just OEM equipment.

It’s not to try to make a particular model seem like something it’s not,

You’d gladly take a 80 hp/tq hit just to have a hatch? Seriously?

As soon as I read “slammed crossover” I was assuming this was a fully sarcastic comment, but it’s hard to tell.

It’s a bad take by jalopnik standards, but it’s a accurate take by People Who Buy WRXes Standards (I’ve had 3 (03, 07, 11) - all sedans - would have been 4 (15/16) if the FA20 wasn’t jerky crap). Otherwise, Subaru would sell one.

The WRX sedan competes with the Elantra N, sure, but Subaru has nothing to throw at the hot hatches from Honda or Toyota.

I don’t get the obsession with what engines “can do” in terms of HP. Especially when it’s what the engine can do on the “stock block” and not “stock internals.

I’m waiting for an ECU/DME unlock that doesn’t involve shipping the unit to Finland.

They need to focus on fitting a good-looking car on top of that engine.

I want to take a ride with your wife!

Keep traction control on. Modern 5.0L Mustangs are very easy to control, if you keep the traction control on. They have sport modes if you want to have fun.

Having driven one of these plenty of times (my parents have an older one), I have to say, they are not nearly as potent as Jalopnik pretends that they are. They struggle for traction, the transmission is pretty dumb, and the traction control is invasive as hell.

How else will all the base sports coup (mustang V6, camaro 2L turbo, and etc) bros cope with being only as fast as a Camry lol.

Not all great synonyms.

This doesn’t work. We set up a system that forces people to drive to be able to live. So if you take away peoples’ licenses, all you end up with is more people driving illegally without a license or insurance. Which just costs honest drivers more.
