All batteries gradually reduce voltage output as they discharge. You don’t notice it on most devices until the battery is nearly dead because most devices have enough excess capacity to provide the necessary voltage until 10-20% capacity
So while the new Prius may sacrifice a little practicality, it does so on the way to being the new styling standard for Toyota
