Let’s not forget his restriction of early voting in 2014, designed to sneak in under the wire and disenfranchise minority voters in advance of the midterm elections.

Oh hell no; he’s personally against forced births for rape victims, but admits that he supports gag orders on rape crisis counselors to appear more pro-life. This position is WORSE than that I’d attributed to him (draconian forced birth policy based on sincere religious convictions), because he’s willing to do what he

“I’m thinkin’ we’ve got momentum!” Kasich replied.

THIS. I now work for myself, but I used to work for a small business. My coworker got 6 weeks paid leave and 6 weeks unpaid when she had a baby, but technically, our bosses didn’t have to give her anything. It’s completely ridiculous that healthcare and maternity leave are governed by women’s employers in this country.

Boy if that isn’t the truth. It isn’t surprising at all that countries that also give men paternity leave have a much more balanced and equal workforce.

Why are we still thinking of parental leave as a women's issue? Even people who will never have children still start off as children. This issue affects every child being born in America.

Paid parental leave isn’t really (or shouldn’t be) a women’s issue. At least, not until asexual reproduction becomes ubiquitous.

Giving men paternity leave would actually go a long way toward destigmatizing maternity leave. Right now we treat raising children, and particularly babies, as almost entirely the mother’s responsibility. Women are penalized for procreating and men are not because women are expected to make major lifestyle and career

I’m due any day with number 2 and the best deal I could get for work was a partial leave and to work online. I teach at a university and was only eligible for 8 weeks off of my 50% appointment, so I’ll take 16 weeks off at 25% and work the other 25% teaching the online class. I’m super worried about how I’ll get it

Yup- I’m fairly certain companies aren’t cool with people telecommuting while also taking care of kids.

Jesus, John Kasich. You’re supposed to be the smart one. The kinds of jobs you’re talking about, the ones with offices and telecommuting and computers, are the ones that ALREADY provide paid family leave as part of their benefits packages. You can’t telecommute to your job at the fast-food restaurant, or Walmart, or

Right? Have you ever stayed home and tried to work with a kid home sick from school? Even when they’re sick and operating at half speed, you’re lucky if you’re half as productive as when you’re in an office.

The only people who suggest this are people who've never taken care of an infant 24/7. Having taken care of 3 of them it just makes me laugh and laugh and laugh.

I LOVE how people just casually suggest that working from home is equivalent to maternity leave, like it’s so easy to work while caring for a newborn. The first three months with my second born were so intense that taking a shower felt like a major accomplishment.
