I was actually underwhelmed by Mega Man 4 on my most recent playthrough. The Robot masters are good enough, but the Dr Wily/Cossack levels felt very rushed. Even the final boss was a let down, going down without me even using an energy tank.

The game definitely has some annoying difficulty spikes. I never learned exactly how the final fight with Seymour worked, I just used a guide.

I'm not sure if I have a top ten, but I loved Super Mario Galaxy 2 (probably my favorite game of all time), Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Metroid Prime 3, Donkey Kong Country Returns (BS waggle be damned), Kirby: Return to Dreamland, and Wario Ware.

In Super Mario 64, Mario's drowning animation was one of the most graphic things I've seen in a 'kiddy' game. He clutches his throat and twitches before going limp. Dying in quicksand was also horrifying, the camera would zoom in on Mario's eyes right before the sand enveloped him.
