Having lived out that way, I wonder if the issue is road trips. In the normal world, you’ve got cities, sprawl, and towns with 5-10 miles in between. I’m in Michigan and I can’t imagine the last time I saw something like that.  Surely the bottom half of these cars disintegrated years ago.

And AWD cars with snow tires are better.
