Google the term "Mighty No. 9" and then look at how quickly it got the $900,000 on it's kickstarter. There is enough interest for a 2D sidescroller Mega Man (which are much cheaper to make than full AAA titles) for it to make money. Sometimes companies have tunnel vision.
If you are against these terrible microtransaction policies, you don't have to know anything about this mode to decide not to get the game. People always talk about voting with our wallets. This is a great chance for that. Put this nonsense in, and I'll vote "no" by not buying it.
