I’ve been seeing a TON of Hillary signs here in central Texas (and I don’t live in a large city). There’s hope even in solidly red states!

Um no, FDR amended the constitution to repeal prohibition. His attempt at changing the supreme court was a colossal failure. The most popular proposed amendment to the constitution is to change the electoral process, by a long shot. Out of over 1000 proposed amendments over our history, only about 35 even made it to

One of my co-workers was feeling the Bern and then switched to Stein. We live in California but he gets defensive about voting for Stein. He is a smart guy, works in IT and tried to defend Stein’s comment about WiFis. I have never given someone the level of side-eye I gave him when he made that comment.

The major flaw in what you’re asking for is that basically the US is not a democracy. It’s a republic. It’s a pretty major difference and that is essentially why third parties don’t work with our electoral system. Even in the way the function in parliamentary democracies is becoming more and more like a two party

Sometimes the ideological purity of a white person is far more important then the rights and freedoms of their black, brown, female and GLBTQ friends.

Our last successful insurgent party was the Republicans, who emerged in the early 1850's and even then they took over the House BEFORE they ran a presidential candidate.

I feel that, deep down inside, these candidate and whatever constitutes as the party leaders know that either they or their policies are too inept/too farfetched/too insane to actually build a strong viable party. Otherwise, whey did the Greens mobilize after the 2000 election? They had all the momentum and a (I

One of my longest friends thinks along the same logic, and I think it comes from the difficulty of seeing ourselves as anything other than individuals. The phrase I feel encapsulates the idea is: “The sheeple are everyone else”

Obama also had experience in the Illinois assembly. Many presidents have had no federal level experience (W, Clinton are two that come to mind) so federal experience has not ever been a requirement on the part of electors. And I have a friend who believes that a senator or congressman who wants to be president needs

I have a liberal friend who hates Hillary with the intensity of a thousand burning suns who thinks now is the time to vote third party. I’ve been pointing out that no, this is the time for third parties to start running for school boards, city councils, and other small local positions so they’re known and understood

Mr. WaywardCalicoCat is still determined to vote for Gary Johnson. We have had several frank talks about it, and I am still shocked that someone so intelligent would vote for a dingbat like Johnson.

Exactly! DC has this weird thing where at least one city council seat is reserved for a minority party (in practice not a Democrat). Independents keep winning because neithrr the Greens or Libertarians can mount a credible candidate. They make it hard to take them seriously.

Especially frustrating are Liberals who are backing Johnson. Just because he’s okay with legal weed doesn’t make him some champion of progressive politics. And yeah, he says he supports the environment, but thinks that unregulated industry will just magically protect the environment out of the goodness of its heart.

Yeah, Obama got cast as a lightweight, but at least he’d actually served in the federal government, even if only part of a term. Stein hasn’t even had the experience of working at a statewide level in MA.

My issue with the 3rd Party folks this go round is that they are taking the idiotic stance that Clinton and Trump are equally terrible while not facing the reality that Johnson and Stein are both woefully ill prepared to be POTUS.

She has never once won an election or served in any position of authority. Ever.

Third party candidates need to do more for small elections - run for city council, state representative, whatever - build from the ground up. I understand that they need to put a candidate into the presidential election, but for the love of whatever ridiculous shit they believe in let’s not try to fuck up the country

Right? Not that Obama had much experience before ascending to the presidency but Jill is a totally different ballgame. Our girl Hills should have won in 2008 but thank fucking God she’s going to win in 2016.

“People ask me, gosh, what was it like to conquer Mount Everest? Well I did not conquer Mount Everest. She lifted her skirt and I got in there and got a peek and it was really cool.”

It can’t be pointed out frequently enough that the most experience Jill Stein has had in government has been representing one of the wealthiest, whitest towns in Massachusetts in its Town Meeting. Going from that to the presidency is like jumping from kindergarten to university.
