I was really hoping someone would mention The Culture on this question. Now that we’ve seen anthology TV series like AHS and Black Mirror, it’s conceivable that each of the Culture books could be a season. I’d love to see how Excession would be handled.

Hard read? I still move my lips when I read, and this was far and away one of the best series I've ever read. Player is my favorite, with Excession running a close second. But none of them could top the ending of Matter.
Where to start? I've seen a lot of the series I've binge read over the years. The Culture books by Iain M. Banks are high on the list. So are The Black Company (Glenn Cook), The Amber Chronicles (Roger Zelazney), The Wizard Knight and Books of the New Sun (Gene Wolfe) and Song of Ice and Fire (GRRM).
