Ahhh, forget her! Believe it or not, most of the successful hairstylists who’ve managed to do well are pretty good with services, and their talent might just be mediocre. Your ex hairstylist needs to work on her service.

I wasn’t going to read that because I don’t click links, but I did because of what you said and actually... if his account of things is true, I kind of agree with him? I don’t agree with his choice of words, but I do agree with him sticking up for his employee and not backing down.
That being said, I find it hard to

I’m all for better working conditions for nail techs and I hope that will be the end result. I’m just not sure doing your nails at home will help them? I’ve known nail techs that did quite well but they have celebrity clients and work at upscale spas. I’m concerned about how the nail techs at the salons that are being

I also use Gelish and loooove it. As someone whose nails are very naturally thin, it has also helped me strengthen and grow out my nails.

I agree and I think the quick knee-jerk response to eschew all manicure services is ridiculous. If you feel confident in the mom-and-pop place you’ve been going to maybe the best thing to do is to ask questions of the employees the next time you’re there.

Can I ask a potentially dumb question? I live in NYC, and I get cheap mani/pedis, and like most sentient people, I knew something had to be hinky about the super-low cost. So I always went to the same place, because it was family-run—no random day labor as described in the NYT article—and I tipped well every time, say

I have to say, I’m a little surprised by all the people claiming to be surprised by the nature of the employment situation in nail salons. It’s almost unimaginable that those low, low prices come from people who aren’t being worked to the bone.

Ah, painting your nails with wite-out! I’m getting massive middle school nostalgia here.

No, sorry. I can’t agree to that. Hahaha. I don’t see how the price of my ring bothers anybody. I didn’t post it or its price on FB, nor the price of my wedding. I invited people, but they didn’t have to come. I like parties. You don’t like parties? Don’t attend.

Merh it’s the same reaction a whole bunch of people would have. I totally saw it as an “I cant fucking believe this cuz I am about to ugly cry all up on camera”

Public proposals give me anxiety. I do believe her, though. Totally plausible that her initial expression means “oh shit these adorable dum dums are gonna make me ugly cry in front of millions!”

I could probably submit one of these about myself. Many years ago when Subway sandwich shops were rocketing to the top of the national consciousness with the “Subway diet” I stopped in one day to eat with my family. I was a teenager and was waiting behind my family not really paying attention until I got up to the

HER DAD WAS/IS ALIVE?

That one makes sense to me, its a regional thing and someone might not know it was a battered and fried steak.

The Tito’s/Tanqueray thing reminds me of this time back in my mid-20s when I went to this party my then-roommate’s friends were throwing. I didn’t really know the people at this party, but there was free booze, so whatever. I’m making random small talk with this dude who, it became quickly apparent, was a total

“Kylie has always been so insecure about her lips, since she was a little girl,”

True confession: I have worked in child care. I kind of hated it when we had volunteers, especially when they weren’t exactly voluntary, come in to “help.” They tended to be disruptive, they weren’t allowed to help with things like diaper changes, feeding, or discipline, so I ended up not only still having to watch

I really want to give Jay Leno the benefit of the doubt. But then I remembered the Letterman/Lemo fiasco (as detailed in the excellent book The Late Shift) as well as how he treated Conan. So yeah, he probably did it on purpose.

If I had $15,000 to drop on a single article of clothing I would just hire someone to make something for me.

Why the snark?
