Have seen his name appear on several #metoo threads. It’s pretty easy to see he has a history of predation on female undergrad and graduate students. His metoo experience is sad and horrible. I also think it’s sad that the women he’s preyed on will never have a platform like ‘The New Yorker’ to voice theirs.

I don’t think it’s the “cheating” that’s pissing women off, I think it’s the fact that young female writers are told to avoid him at all costs. That’s not cheating, that’s predatory behavior.

I could have sworn I saw him listed several times on a “metoo” thread when the Alexie and Handler allegations came out. But, yeah, numerous young female writers on Twitter have confirmed predatory behavior the last day.

I think you can acknowledge that it’s horrible what happened to him, but that doesn’t given him license for predatory behavior. I think the timing is very convenient.

I would look at the Twitter accounts of Carmen Maria Machado and Victor LaValle (both public). Someone from this thread posted some screenshots from yesterday (scroll down a bit) from comments one one tweet, and there have been more since then.

If you’ve been watching Twitter at all, it’s pretty damning when multiple women writers state he was on a list of men they were told to avoid.

Thanks, those were the tweets I was referring to. Followed them from Roxane Gay’s account.

Thanks, yup, abuse tactic. Come out with this now, because he knows the shits about to hit the fan.

I agree, in this instance, but more so that that this article seems like an anticipatory deflection of upcoming allegations against himself. It’s horrible what happened to him, but it doesn’t excuse abuse on his part.

I don’t think that’s what “Liz” meant. Judging by Twitter, I think he knows some sh** is going to come out about him.

Has anyone else been the responses on Twitter from authors like Carmen Maria Muchado and Victor LaValle? It depresses me greatly, but I think there’s a reason Díaz released this piece, now. I hope I’m wrong.

I would say it’s safe to say an 18 year old knows not to beat another person.

Oh, I think it’s completely reasonable. What he did was pretty screwed up.

Yup, and the writers turn out to be sexual harassers. carazy!

SERIOUSLY.

Oh, no, it’s really that bad.

Don’t worry, now I know that YOU are the true victim here. :)

Oh my lord, are you still going?

These words you put together make no sense. You done?

Ahahaha, “nuance,” you are a silly one.
